Shannon Steele, the founder and one of the chief rescuers of the Minnesota-based non-profit canine rescue organization Northern Lakes Rescue, could not ignore a cry for assistance that was posted on social media. It was about a malnourished dog abandoned in a shed and was on the verge of death.
Upon reading about the animal, she could not stand by and do nothing. She promptly made plans to send the dog to an emergency veterinarian.
Shannon was unaware of the severity of the dog’s illness, but she knew she had to act quickly to save it. And she was shocked when she received a photo update from the veterinarian. She could not believe the dog was still alive, given its terrible condition.
The dog, named Trinity, then spent the night at the emergency vet and underwent a blood transfusion. The next day, she was moved to two more clinics in Texas before arriving at the Garrison Vet, Northern Lakes Rescue’s partner clinic. Upon arrival, she got a second and third transfusion to maintain normal blood levels.
Additional examination revealed that Trinity has been malnourished for a long time. She was also terribly dehydrated and plagued with fleas. She was definitely in the worst condition possible, but she clung to life until help arrived.
Trinity was hospitalized for many days. She was given strong painkillers, IV fluids, and antibiotics. A week later, despite her severe condition, she was able to go home with her foster mother.
In Trinity’s foster home, she slept in a cozy bed. She ate every two hours to gradually acclimate her body to feeding. Within a few weeks of receiving the finest care, she regained enough strength to leap onto the couch. She even went up the stairs the next morning.
Trinity is still in danger, but everyone believes she will survive. She is a true warrior who cherishes life, and with the help she receives, she will recover in no time.
