This female canine proved that there’s nothing stronger—or more extraordinary!—than a mother’s love. Through the help of these Pennsylvanian first responders, and of course, her instincts as a mother—they were able to save her puppy, who got trapped beneath a boulder.
According to WBRE/WYOU, Tunkhannock Township police officer Timothy McCoy and the Lake Winola firefighters received an emergency call about an eight-month-old Golden Retriever named Brandy needed some help.
The puppy went missing one Sunday evening. Nadia Delicati, her owner, frantically searched for the little darling but couldn’t find it on her own. The fur mom’s search became lengthy because the missing puppy wasn’t responding to her calls. She later discovered that the puppy’s head got stuck in a small hole in a boulder, making it impossible for her to bark.
But Bailey, the Delicati’s other dog, who was also Brandy’s mommy, was, fortunately, able to lead their owner to the lost pup. This is also through the help of her strong canine sense of smell. They immediately called the authorities to help rescue her. It took a team of five firefighters to pull her out of safety.
Lieutenant Nate Evans, a volunteer from the Lake Winola Fire Department, said that they had to make the hole a little bigger to make their smallest guy go inside. Thankfully, they were able to lift the rock just enough to allow her head to pop out; this was added by Lt. Eric Coolbaugh, who is also from the agency. And even though she was hungry, exhausted, and had some paw soreness, Brandy was able to emerge out of the hole unharmed.
Rescuers recounted how the little puppy ran straight to her owner as if it was a scene from a movie. Brandy and her family proceeded to thank all of the people who made rescuing her possible. Coolbaugh said that we had seen enough tragic events in the world. But getting her safely out of her hole and being rewarded with tons of kisses and love from the dog definitely made their day.
