It’s always heartwarming to see a dog get reunited with his or her former handler. And that’s exactly what happened when this military dog reunited with his former handler.

The dog, named Szultan, was overjoyed to see Staff Sgt. Angela Lowe again.

Their story started many years ago when both Szultan and Lowe met in a military training academy. Angela says that the dog wasn’t exactly friendly and that he had barked and showed her all kinds of aggression.

Szultan is known to give other military handlers bruises, and at one point, he crushed Angela’s steel-toe boots. Fortunately, Angela was able to get along with Szultan and soon, they were inseparable.

A couple of years into their service, Angela began to lose her grip on the leashes. She had herself checked, and then she underwent two spine surgeries. That led to her early medical retirement, and that led to her and Szultan parting ways.

Angela missed Szultan, but since the dog was still in active military service, she couldn’t see him. Three years after her retirement, she eventually moved to Pittsburg to study, and that’s where she received a message from Szultan’s current handler.

He asked if she’d be willing to take the dog because he was going to be retired. Angela quickly said yes, but didn’t know how to get the dog.

This was where Lowe contacted Mission K9 Rescue, an organization that helps handlers get reunited with their former K9 buddies. They take care of the costs too, and it’s incredible because it’s no easy task to fly and drive dogs to their permanent homes.

The best part of the story is that Angela and Szultan have been reunited. According to Angela, it was like they had never been apart. Thank you for your service, Angela and Szultan, and mad props to Mission K9 Rescue!
