Carley Coca has been rescuing dogs since she was young. Today, she’s a volunteer-worker of the Paw Print Hearts animal rescue. So the moment she learned about the dogs that were abandoned at Cedar Grove Church, she wasted no time and rushed to save them.
On her first attempt, Carley managed to approach Lily and Zeus. With no fuss, she was able to load them up into her car. But the third pup, named Chance, later on, refused to let her near him.
No matter how much Carley tried, Chance kept distant. He was terrified. He wasn’t sure of her, so Chance barking at Carley. And eventually, he ran away.
Carley didn’t want to leave Chance behind. But she had to bring Lily and Zeus to safety first. So with a heavy heart, she left without Chance.
Carley knew Chance needed help. She refused to give up on him just yet. After placing Lily and Zeus on foster, she came back to see him and tried to gain his trust.
After work, Carley would stop by at McDonald’s to buy 10 cheeseburgers before heading out to the church. It was a 30-minute drive from her, but she didn’t mind. All she was concerned about is to be able to gain Chance’s trust so she could help him.
Every day, Carley would go to see Chance, announcing herself as she arrived. She would stay near his shed for as long as three hours while tossing the cheeseburgers on his direction. Still, Chance kept his distance.
Carley even tried bringing Lily with her. While he was excited to see his friend, Chance still ran away. Then, something happened.
On the 8th day of Carley’s visit, Chance suddenly came running. She stuck her hand out, and he immediately started licking it.
Worried that he might run off again, Carley approached Chance slowly. To her surprise, the dog laid on his back and allowed her to pet him. Carley was teary-eyed, she was so happy that finally, she’d gained his trust.
Carley brought Chance to the vet before heading back home. She decided she’s going to foster him until he’s ready to be with his new family. But as it seems, Chance may have found his loving forever family already. Carley has fallen in love with him, and it won’t be surprising at all if he ends up as a foster fail. After all, he’s one sweet guy, and anyone would love him.
