Hope For Paws Animal Rescue in L.A. received an email saying that a German Shepherd was dumped at a landfill in the middle of the desert. Quickly, two of its volunteers, JoAnn and Katie, responded. They drove for two hours in order to get to the Mojave Desert, and they spent another 30 minutes searching for the dog.

As the ladies learned, there were originally three dogs in that area. But then, people came and took the other two away. They were probably from a different rescue group who failed to capture the Shepherd so they just left the poor pup behind.

Since the day his friends were gone, the dog had been on his own. He lived in the landfill for over a year. And while some of the workers gave him food and water whenever they can, it wasn’t enough. He needed to be in a safer place.

JoAnn and Katie set up a humane trap and made sure the dog saw them leave. They waited for a short while and eventually, the pup walked right into the cage. As soon as he did, they ran toward him, carried him into their car, and named him Andrew.

From the desert, the rescuers drove for another two hours to get to the animal clinic. It was imperative to get the pup checked to make sure he was in excellent health so they took him to their partner vet in the city. But because he was so scared of people, they needed to wait for him to decompress a bit.

Andrew relaxed a little but he was still so afraid and hesitant to be around humans. The sudden change in his environment also caused him to feel anxious. But once he was clean, he felt much better and realized he was in safe hands.

After receiving his clean bill of health, Andrew continued to his foster home with L.A. Animal Rescue. His newfound friends taught him how to trust and love again. And within about a month, he did great progress and became a completely different dog.

Andrew is now happy, healthy, and ready to be in his new home. If you find him perfect for your home, contact L.A. Animal Rescue today.
