In an abandoned lot in a rural neighborhood in China, a stray dog gave birth to a litter of six pups inside an old cement sewer pipe.
Safety
The homeless pooch has been living in the area for a long time already. Many of the women in the community have given her food at one point or another. And when they discovered that the dog had given birth, they were concerned for her and her pups’ safety.
They got in touch directly with a local animal charity group and told them about the dog. They asked for help and thankfully, the organization agreed. A team was formed and then sent to the area the next day.
When the rescuers arrived. the woman met them and showed them where the dog frequently stayed. The group of three persons went inside the abandoned lot and they saw the dog mom right away.
The rescue
The pup growled at them as they got near but they could see that it was more out of fear than aggression. They pushed on and then the dog ran away. Their first priority was to get the puppies then they would focus on saving the mother.
They looked all over the place until they heard small whimpering coming from inside an unused cement sewer pipe around eight feet long. They peered in but it was too dark. using a flashlight they finally saw six puppies huddling together at the closed end of the pipe.
Luckily, one of the volunteers was thin enough to fit inside the pipe. She went in and placed all pups inside a plastic bag. When she was done, the rest of the group pulled her out.
Catching the mom was more difficult. They had to place a cage and trap her. But once they got the dog, she realized that they were being saved and she calmed down.
New life
The family was brought to their shelter where they were given food, water, and a warm and comfortable place to stay in. The shelter staff said that they will take care of the family until the pups grow bigger and more independent. By then, they will start looking for suitable families that will give them their new forever home.
