We can all agree that most stray dogs live a hard life. They have no one to care for them, and they are always in survival mode, not knowing where their next meal will come from. Most stray dogs scavenge food from dumpsters, which often causes diseases. Stray dogs that get injured have a very high chance of dying from hunger or malnutrition.

A stray dog named Scooch was found under a house by builders tasked to remodel the house. When the workers saw Scooch, they immediately contacted an animal rescue organization called Stray Rescue Of St. Louis. The workers couldn’t believe that Scooch was able to survive and stated that if any stray dog needed help, the dog under the house needed it the most.

A rescuer from St. Louis Stray Rescue named Donna didn’t waste any time to go to the location. When Donna looked under the house, she immediately knew why the workers were so concerned. Aside from being emaciated, Scooch also suffered from a terrible injury that left his two back legs paralyzed.

Understandably, Scooch was afraid of Donna. So, instead of grabbing Scooch and dragging him outside, Donna decided to sit down and earn Scooch’s trust by talking to him and giving him sausage treats. Hungry, Scooch gladly ate the sausages given to him by Donna.

Little by little, Scooch started trusting Donna. To lure Scooch out from under the house, Donna left a trail of sausages for Scooch to follow. It took a while, but Scooch eventually made it outside. Once Scooch was safely out, Donna put on a leash around Scooch and carried him to a blanket.

Donna had a better look at Scooch when he was finally outside. Scooch was so skinny that it was evident that the poor dog hasn’t had anything to eat for a while. Once Scooch settled down, Donna and another rescuer carried Scooch onto their van. Donna and the other rescuer took Scooch back to their facility, and they also took him to the vet to get checked.

After Scooch was rescued, Donna immediately started to help Scooch with his mobility. Donna started by wrapping a sheet around Scooch’s waist, which she used as a sling to support Scooch’s back legs when taking him for a walk. The support helped Scooch walk around without dragging his back legs on the floor.

It was apparent that Scooch needed a set of wheels to help him walk. Scooch was fitted with a dog wheelchair, which made it a lot easier for him to walk around. When Scooch was fitted with wheels to support his back legs, Scooch had a really proud look in his face.

The wheels also helped Scooch gain more confidence. It didn’t take long for Scooch to open up and show his sweet personality. Here’s a heartwarming video showing Scooch’s rescue and his transformation.
