Even a single day outdoors can catch anyone by surprise. Natalya and her pup Sugarfoot described their day as nothing out of the ordinary. Natalya and Sugarfoot grazed on the grass and bathed in the sunlight when an uninvited visitor flew down to prey on the unsuspecting canine.
According to an interview with the Dodo, Natalya didn’t think that this giant bird would try to fly down and attack Sugarfoot. Gladly, the giant bird — a hawk, decided to leave Sugarfoot alone at the last minute. It happened too fast, and Natalya can’t believe that it all occurred before her eyes.
Unfazed by what happened, Sugarfoot continued playing on the grass. Enjoying the day ahead, as if nothing happened, the dog kept being energetic. However, oblivious to things Sugarfoot seemed, things could turn out for the worse had the bird decided to make a meal out of Sugarfoot.
Dog owners need to keep an eye out for predatory birds as they are known to attack small dogs or even puppies. Public parks or even grassy enclosures may host these large birds that tend to mistaken small dogs for rodents or prey. The giant bird did not startle the pup, but it did surprise and disturb the fur-mom. According to Natalya, she has grown more cautious and learned to pay more close attention to her puppy.
“I’ve grown more cautious about what happens outdoors, and to be more mindful of what happens,” Natalya told the Dodo. It may also be a lesson for other dog owners who like to take their dogs out for walks. After all, as fur parents, it is our job to ensure their safety even if it means keeping them safe from predators. Witness the scary encounter on the video below:
