Seeing the fluffiest doggos can make you go crazy because of how cute and adorable they are. You couldn’t help and squeeze their soft cheeks. However, just like humans, doggos can also get overweight and this can put their health in danger.

When Pam Heggie first met her doggo, Kai the Golden Retriever, he weighed a whopping 173 pounds. According to his vet, he was the most overweight dog he had ever seen. And because of his weight, he was almost put down by his previous family.

But luckily, a veterinarian was able to save him by contacting the Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue. This is where Pam found Kai and decided to take him in. When they first got home, it took the pooch about 20 minutes to walk up the stairs and into the main door.

During those times, Kai was really in bad shape. He couldn’t even last five to ten steps without getting tired. He would also have trouble going on that sometimes, his hooman would have to help him get up. But despite the challenge, Pam was determined to help Kai get a better chance in life.

With the help of his vet, Pam started doing a lot of things to help Kai lose weight. They started watching what he eats and exercising a lot. They would even take three walks a day to get Kai moving. Pam also put the doggo on water therapy to strengthen his legs and his stamina.

Whenever they go on walks, Pam would make sure that they go further each day. Eventually, Kai got the hang of it and grew stronger. Pam and his family were very supportive of Kai’s weight loss journey that they celebrated every milestone along the way.

After a year on this journey, Kai had successfully lost more than 100 pounds. The doggo now enjoys running around and playing freely without easily getting tired. Kai is in wonderful shape now compared to when Pam first met him and is the healthiest pooch that he can be.
